Maarten Baptist ('76)
considers the designing process to be like a game. By involving others, mainly future users, a game originates between user and designer. This tension keeps him sharp. biographyBaptist studied at the Design Academy Eindhoven. Together with Jan Habraken he started WATdesign (Working Apart Together). The products he (together or solo) designs are functional and recognisable. “ With my designs I stimulate people. I challenge them to look at recognisable products in a different way. My designs give people a little bit of there childhood amazement back.“
ProductThe Open Air collection is a unique collection of cutlery with a modern character, based on a classical shape. It was designed in 2003 and was part of Maarten’s graduation project of Man and Living, at the Design Academy Eindhoven, led by Gijs Bakker (Droog design).
